About Mette
People often ask me where the idea for Stillness in Motion came from. The simple answer is that it came from my personal life, from many years of trying to understand why I had slowly become someone I no longer recognised, when I used to feel very grounded in myself. But it also came from all the beautiful work experiences and people I have been honoured to be part of over the last 25 years.
As a mother to 3 amazing kids, a wife, a business owner and an expat I was always trying to hold family and professional life together. When my son became seriously ill there simply was no time to fall apart so I adapted. From the outside I probably looked successful, happy, resilient, living the good life, but inside I had strayed so far from my own needs that I was living in constant survival mode.
I thought that once the hospital appointments stopped, my kids had grown up and left home, and needed me less, I could finally focus on myself. But instead of enjoying this newfound space, I couldn’t get out of bed. I was left with a huge emptiness and a nervous system that was still waiting for the next crisis, the next task, the next thing that needed to be taken care of.
My instinct was to keep busy, find new hobbies, read self-help books, work, travel, exercise, anything but stop for long enough that the emotions and grief could catch up with me.
This is when I instinctively started creating. Not to become an ‘artist’ but as a way to be with myself and all my inner mind circus, to find momentary relief from my racing thoughts. For hours, I would lock myself away and slowly I started to see slivers of the Mette I had once known, a little free girl sitting under a tree in the Danish countryside singing and telling herself and the forest stories.
That’s also when I became interested in narrative therapy and nervous system regulation. Together they helped me understand something that completely changed my perspective: I should not believe everything I think. My thoughts were often shaped by experiences that had never been given the attention or space they needed to heal.
This was the beginning of Stillness in Motion.

I am a certified narrative therapist and NLP coach, with a background in psychology and 25 years experience as a family and parenting consultant. My work has taken me around the world: from Brussels and China to London, Dublin, Denmark and now the Côte d’Azur. I’ve worked with companies, international schools, parents and teachers, creating space for people to pause, reflect and reconnect to what truly matters to them. One of my greatest privileges has been accompanying people through personal transitions and witnessing them create more of the life they truly want to live.
But the biggest reason I can help others today is because I know how it feels to lose yourself in life's admin, work, family and expectations. To be on the go all the time but never feel like you ‘got there'. To always put yourself last, waiting to take of and letting your dreams wait.
But I now know we are never truly lost, more often we just safe stillness to be able to
hear oneself again and more importantly, to trust the voice we hear
